Activating N2 – the Haber-Bosch process and beyond
The current industrial ammonia synthesis has a substantial carbon footprint, and an alternative process based on the energy input from sustainable sources, solar or wind would be highly desirable. The lecture will discuss why alternatives to the Haber-Bosch process are difficult to find and will focus in particular on the possibility of an electrochemical process to reduce dinitrogen.
