Prof. Jaap Schouten
Jaap Schouten received his Bachelor of Technical Sciences degree (Btw., 1981) and MSc degree (Ir., cum laude, 1983) of the University of Twente and his PhD degree (cum laude, 1988) from Delft University of Technology. He worked as research manager at Unilever Research Laboratory in Vlaardingen (1988-1990) and as assistant and associate professor at the department of Chemical Engineering at Delft University of Technology (1990-1998). He joined Eindhoven University of Technology in 1998 as full professor in chemical reactor engineering. Since 2011 he is dean of the department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at TU/e. He is vice-chair of the Supervisory Board of ISPT and board member of Chemelot InSciTe.
Schouten’s group performs research in reactor engineering with emphasis on design, development and operation of microfluidic reaction systems, structured reactors and rotating reactors. He published over 330 scientific papers. He received the Chemistry Innovation KTN Award (2006) and the Core Chemical Engineering Award of IChemE (2013), the Simon Stevin Meesterschap Award of STW (2006), an NWO TOP Grant (2006), an ERC Advanced Grant (2008) and ERC Proof of Concept Grant (2012). Emultech and Flowid are spin-offs of his group. Since 2007 Schouten is member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences (KHMW).
