Dr. Jan Philipp Hofmann
Jan Philipp Hofmann, born 1982 in Weilburg, Germany, studied chemistry at Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany and at Roskilde University, Denmark. He obtained his PhD from JLU Giessen in 2009 with a surface science based study on chlorinated RuO2 model catalysts (Prof. Herbert Over). In 2011, he moved to the group of Prof. Bert M. Weckhuysen, Utrecht, where he investigated heterogeneous catalysts for renewable feedstock conversion applying spectroscopic, microscopic, and X-ray diffraction techniques. In 2013, he was appointed assistant professor (tenure track) in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at TU/e in the group of Prof. Emiel J. M. Hensen.
His current research interest is centered around the conversion and storage of solar into chemical energy by photo(electro)chemical water splitting. The main focus is generation of new mechanistic insight and the derivation of structure-activity relationships of photo(electro)catalytic systems using advanced spectroscopic and microscopic methods on tailored model systems.
